An Occupancy Permit (or Certificate of Occupancy) is a legal document from the local government. It confirms that a building meets all safety and building codes.

Information you may be required to provide when submitting your application:

Site Plan: Drawn to scale, showing the location of the proposed temporary structure in relation to other buildings and property boundaries.
Service and Facility Plans: Indicating the location of:
Health & Safety Policy and checklist
Annual Essential Safety Measures Report
Site Plan showing the location of buildings, setbacks to boundaries, permanent features, emergency assembly areas, fire hydrants, and access for emergency services
Floor plan showing the area of the building to be used for temporary occupation, including the number and location of beds
Plan showing the location and number of male, female, and disabled sanitary facilities, including toilets, wash basins, and showers (or details of alternative showering arrangements)
Plan showing the location and widths of exits
Plan showing the location of firefighting equipment (fire hydrants, hose reels, and fire extinguishers, including type/class and size)
Plan showing the location of interconnected mains-powered smoke alarms
Plan showing the location of kitchen facilities
Plans showing the location of illuminated exit signs, directional exit signs, and emergency lighting
Any other features applicable to the application for temporary occupation of the building
Occupancy Permit: A copy issued by the Victorian Building Authority for the prescribed temporary structures included in this application.
