Amend a planning permit under Section 72 for significant changes
Last updated on: 05 September 2025

Before you start

Section 72 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 allows for amendments to existing planning permits. This process is used for more significant changes that cannot be addressed through secondary consent.
Check the conditions and details of your existing permit to understand the scope of permissible changes.

You should apply for a Section 72 amendment if your proposed changes:
  • have any modifications to the conditions of the existing permit.
  • have significant changes to the use or development for which the permit was originally issued.
  • have major alterations to the plans endorsed as part of the original permit.

Depending on the changes you need made, public notification may be required to allow for objections and submissions.
We'll assess your application against the planning scheme and make a decision.
